Fire and Ice

Based on the poem Fire and Ice by Robert Frost. Requested by LYB, who is also responsible rhyming cats with rats. The Wikipedia page on this poem is interesting.

This was also a difficult one. Originally I wanted to do cats and dogs, but preserving the rhyme structure was impossible. So here’s how I went with it:

Some say the world will end in cats,
Some say in mice.
From what I’ve tasted of them rats
I hold with those who favor cats.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of cheese
To say that for destruction mice
Hold many keys
And would suffice.

    Alternate version:

Some say the world will end in cats,
    Some say in mice.
From what I’ve tasted of grey rats,
I hold with those who favor cats.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of cheese
To say that for destruction mice
    Do as they please
    And would suffice.
